Very experienced in practical thin films design and process development, application
of industrial Design Of Experiments methodology (DOE), optical systems development
and tolerancing, ion/plasma source application, seminars and in-house short courses. Member of the Optical Society of America for five decades, and experienced in optical system and coating development and production. Consulted for over 30 years with many divisions of General Electric, Martin, General Motors, etc. Has served as an expert forensic witness for optical systems and coating litigations. Mr. Willey has recently published the two (2) book series: Practical Design of Optical Thin Films, Second Edition and Practical Production of Optical Thin Films Practical Equipment, Materials, and Processes for Optical Thin Films He is also the author of the books: Practical Monitoring and Control of Optical Thin Films, Second Edition, Practical Design and Production of Optical Thin Films and Field Guide to Optical Thin Films. Please see Books From time to time, we have provided seminars under the auspices of SPIE, SVC, the Fraunhofer Institute, the Optical Society of India, and the University of Wisconsin. New seminars will also be announced here. Announcement: A one week course will be provided in the Practical Design and Production of Optical Thin Films: including all of the material in the two books of like titles, thin film design software, and additional material. The course is intended to be valuable to seasoned thin film scientists and engineers as well as new coating engineers and technicians. The tutorial material will also be interspersed with practical design and evaluation exercises of the various subjects using FilmStar computer aided design software on individual computers. For those not currently using FilmStar, this will provide an opportunity to become comfortable with its use and some of its unique capabilities. Please see the syllabus and Registration Form for more details. This course will be held in Alzenau, Germany, from 9-8-08 through 9-12-08 at the Leybold Optics GmbH . If this course would be of interest to you, please e-mail us at ron@willeyoptical.com, or call (231) 237-9392. This site is a source of expertise and information in the form of consulting, papers, book, seminars, and courses on the subjects of optical thin films, optical system and lens design, and tolerancing for minimum production costs. This includes expert forensic witness, design and development of optical thin films and systems, hardware for ion assisted deposition (IAD), and the application of Design of Experiments methodology to efficient process development.
